Access Statement For The
Shrewsbury
Introduction
The Shrewsbury is a non-smoking family run guest house. We are
located within 5 minutes of the town centre and approx. 100m from the
beach. The following statement is a summary of our provision.

Pre-Arrival
• The train station is approx. 10 minutes away by car. We
offer a free collection service to and from the
station by prior arrangement.
• There are always taxis awaiting at the station for passengers.
• We have a website.
• We can be contacted by phone, text or email (details below).
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• A residents parking scheme is in operation and permits are issued
free of charge to our guests.
• There are two private spaces at the rear of the property (we take
no responsibility for vehicles parked there).
• Guests can unload at the front entrance before parking.
• We can assist guests with luggage.
Main Entrance & Reception
• There is a 9" (23cm) step up to the frontage of the property
and 2 steps 8" (20cm) and 6" (15cm) into the building.
The pathway into the house is paved with sandstone slabs.
• The building is a double fronted Victorian terraced house and not
wheelchair accessible.
• The inner door is always locked and the door bell is accessible
to all.
• The hallway, dining room and reception areas are covered with
Karndean flooring.
Second Entrance
• There is a 9" (23cm) step up to the frontage of the property
and 2 steps 8" (20cm) and 6" (15cm) into the building.
The pathway into the house is paved with sandstone slabs.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
• The dining room, lounge, one twin bedroom & one double
bedroom are all located on the ground floor.
• The ground floor bedrooms, due to size and layout, are not
suitable for wheelchair use.
• There are 16 steps up to the first floor and a further 15
steps up to the second floor.
Public Areas - WC
• 2 public WCs are located on the first floor.
Dining Room & Lounge
• Breakfast is served in the dining room located on the ground
floor.
• Furniture is not fixed and can be moved on request.
• Tables are square and chairs are without arms.
• Menus are provided in large print.
• The lounge has bucket chairs and round tables
• We do not play background music in any public areas.
Bedrooms
• There are two en-suite bedrooms (Twin & Double) on the
ground floor.
• There are two en-suite double bedrooms on the first floor
& 4 suites.
• There is one en-suite double bedroom and a 2 room en-suite
family unit on the second floor.
Additional Information
• Assistance dogs are welcomed.
• Mobile phone reception is generally good.
• We are a no smoking building.
• Wireless internet access is available.

Recent and Future Plans
- 2008/2009 we redecorated the dining room and hallways, replacing the
staircase as in keeping with the age of the property. The four
poster room was refurnished and the bathroom refurbished and fully
tiled. The deluxe room was refurnished with dark wood
furniture.
- 2009/2010 a double room was redecorated and the en-suite refurbished
and fully tiled. The spring of 2010 has seen another double
room and en-suite fully refurbished. The outside of the
building has been repainted in new colours, our colour scheme is now
black and cream and the front of the property has been repaved in
sandstone slabs.
- During 2010/2011 we have extensively remodelled the guest house.
2 suites have been created and these are both located on the first
floor. Each suite is adaptable, the four poster suite comprises of a
bedroom and separate lounge and the junior suite is one large room
with a comfortable seating area. The family unit has
been altered and the en-suite enlarged, refurbished and fully tiled.
We have had a new roof on the main building and the carpet in the
hallway and dining room has been replaced with Karndean flooring.
All fire doors have been changed to white panelled doors and fitted
with smoke strips as in keeping with current fire regulations
- In 2012/2013 we replaced the flat roof on the rear extension and
fully renovated that area. During January 2013 the ground
floor bedroom was redecorated and the hallways and stairways were
also redecorated.
- 2013/2014 saw a large scale renovation of an adjoining property that
was purchased and completely remodelled. This resulted in the
creation of a guest lounge, 2 suites and 2 double en-suite rooms.
The dining room has been redecorated and completely re-furnished as
were the hallways and staircases.
- 2015/2016 will see an on-going maintenance programme to keep the
property in excellent decorative order.
- 2017/2018 – 3 bathrooms have been renovated and built in wardrobes
replace free standing furniture in most rooms. The outside has been
repainted and a step added to the front entrance to lower the first
step onto the property. The carpets have been replaced in the rooms,
stairs and hallways of No 9 and the rear extension of No. 10 has
been completely renovated and updated.
